This question was very unpopular among the candidates and the performance of the few that attempted it was poor.
In part (a) most of the candidates were not able to choose suitable scales with which to draw the flow map/chart. Some did not know what flow map means yet they went ahead to answer the question. Some candidates drew pie charts, bar graphs and scored zero.
In part (b) some candidates could not also state the advantages of flow maps. They were expected to state the advantages of flow map/chart as follows:
- They give vivid impression of the traffic flow between two stations.
- The size of the builds or number of lines gives impression of the volume of traffic.
- Factual information may also be written on the flow line or alongside it.
- It is the most commonly used method of representing movement.
- Easy to compare from the thickness of the bands.
