Most of the candidates have not yet mastered the correct use of the French verbs which remains the core of all sentence formation. The verbs were wrongly conjugated and used.
Most of the candidates were equally weak in the use, positioning and placement of accents, negations and pronouns in sentences. They believed that words could be placed anywhere in the sentence. Some of
the candidates wrote their essays in English Language instead of French.
Some to them lacked vocabulary and since their vocabulary was limited, they could hardly write anything meaningful.
To improve on candidates’ performance, teachers of French should be more involved in the teaching of the basic grammatical rules at each lesson. They must ensure that the students are well drilled in French verbs starting with the tenses. They should also encourage the students to read French novels, journals and magazines to acquire more vocabulary.
