The candidate is required to write a letter to a friend with whom had a quarrel, giving three reasons why he and his friend should resume their friendship. Most of the attempts on this question were of average standard, as they embodied no better reasons than the possibility of the  two friends  needing each other's assistance in future. The number candidates who attempted to highlight what the break in relationship has cost them were very few. Most of the essays were poorly organized, they  lacked the free flow of communication expected in a friendly letters. The ideas were mechanically strung together.
