The passages were interesting and the choice of words was appropriate and within the candidates ability to comprehend. The questions that followed the passages were specific and clear.
However, many of the candidates did not demonstrate a thorough understanding of the passage as many answers were mindlessly lifted from the passage.
Majority of the candidates could not answer question 6 (d) correctly. This question dealt with the irony in the passage. Teachers should therefore take time to teach the areas of figures of speech and see to it that students have a thorough understanding of them.
