In Fig. 10, identify and state the functions of the parts labelled
(i)         B;
(ii)        D;
(iii)       F;

State the type of deflection used in a cathode ray tube;,'

B is the control grid, and its function is to control the brilliance,of the scope's display:

1. D is the instrument's focus control, and it serves to control the focus of the oscilloscope's display.

2. F is referred to as the 'Y deflection plates," and the two plates control the vertical motion of the beam. .

3. G is the 'X deflection plates', and the two plates control the horizontal motion for the beam.

(b) Deflections in the cathode'ray tube are of the electronic variety.

OBSERVATION

Thi$ question was on the understanding the concept of an oscilloscope as a measuring instrument. It was fairly popular with the candidates. The absence of a proper mental attitUde' of an oscilloscope wished to have come from ppysical contact was a problem for most caIldidates.
