(a) List two properties of an ideal operational amplifier.
(b) List the names of terminals 1,2,3 and 4 ofthe op-amp'circuit in fig. 7.

OBSERVATION

The expected answers were:

(a) Properties of the ideal operational amplifier include:

Infinite input impedance, Zero output impedance, Infinite bandwidth, , Infinite open-loop gain, Large common mode rejection ratio.
Non-inverting input lnverting input,
Output "Common" or "earth

Because the signals are fed into the inverting input, the response of the device is to invert ( and scale) the input signals as shown in the sketches below.
The (a) part was purely a recall question. It was attempted by many candidates. The performance was fair.

As seen in part (a), candidates found the knowledge that the terminals labelled 1,2,3 and 4, represent non-inverting, inverting, output and earth respectively and the deduction of the sketches required .I
n the part (c ) of the question was easy.
