(b) Outline any five roles which commercial farming can play in the economic development of your country.

This was a popular question. It was attempted by a large number of candidates. Their responses were also very encouraging.

The question required the candidates to define commercial farming and outline the roles it can play in the economic development of your country.

Commercial farming can be described as large scale and usually mechanized agricultural production for the market.           

The major roles commercial farming plays include:

(1)        Making available more raw materials for agro based industries
(2)        Expanding the production of export crop and earning foreign exchange for the country.
(3)        Making possible the production of some farm machinery to support the capital intensive nature of commercial farming.
(4)        Increases in output, which will replace agricultural products that were formerly imported.
(6)        Creating an environment that will help speed up capital accumulation 1n the economy.
(7)        Creating additional job openings for labour.
