-Shallow knowledge of the subject by some candidates, this was evident in the monosyllabic answering of the questions
-Poor presentation of answer, some candidates answered two or more questions on one page; which made marking difficult and suggested that the candidates did not read the rubrics ..
-Candidates could not answer the question that required application and knowledge of Commerce e.g. (7a).
-Candidates performed very poorly on questions on documents used in Trading e.g. question (9b) and questions on shares and debentures
-Poor mastery of English Language, this was evident in candidates’ inability to understand the questions and explain the required points.
(b)Suggested Remedies
-There should be adequate coverage of the syllabus in Commerce by the candidates before registering for examination.
-Candidates should be taught the practical aspect of Commerce, the trade documents and debentures and shares and in question 5.
- Candidates should be taught examination skills, this will enable them to present their points properly.
-Relevant textbooks and seminar papers should be made available to candidates for better understanding of the subject.
-Qualified teachers with degrees in Business Education and Accounting should be employed in the schools to teach Commerce.
-Candidates should be encouraged on the use of English Language.
