The candidates’ weakness include:
- non adherence to rubrics;
- lack of understanding of the demands of the questions;
- lack of good communication skills;
- lack of good mathematical abilities;
- inability to correctly write a balanced chemical equations;
- inability to answer questions based on practical applications;
- inability to relate concepts in chemistry to everyday life;
- inadequate practical exposure;
- inadequate preparation.
The following remedies were suggested to overcome the weakness:
- Candidates should learn to read and adhere. to rubrics. They should be exposed to more laboratory practices and prepare adequately for the examination.
- Teachers should be more dedicated, ready and willing to impart the requisite knowledge to candidate. They should relate chemistry' concepts more to everyday life and attend seminars, lectures and conferences to update their knowledge.
- School authorities and government should employ qualified teachers for the . subject
- Both school and public libraries should be stocked with books and reference materials for use of candidates.
