Question 7

Matt 26: 57-75

(a)        Highlight the trial of Jesus before the High priest
(b)        Why was it compulsory to send him to Pilate?

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

observation

Candidates were to highlight the trial of Jesus before the High priest and to say why it was compulsory to send Jesus to Pilate.
Few candidates who attempted the question started with unnecessary preambles which wasted their time and fetched them no mark e.g starting with Judas betrayal, and how Peter denied him thrice. They failed to mention points like (i) The people said, Jesus deserved death (ii) Two men came forward to bear false witness against Jesus. (iii) Jesus was silent on the charges.
On why he was sent to Pilate, they failed to mention that: (i) The Sanhedrin could not condemn him to death because only the Roman prefect had the authority to do so.
(ii) It was Pilate who had the authority to give final judgment.
