Most candidates were able to state:

-functions of doors in a building;
-the two main functions of a beam in a building.

However, they were unable to use a neat sketch to show how a basement is ventilated.
The expected response from the candidates is as given below:

4(a)Functions of doors are:
i.it serves as a means of access into building;
ii.it serves as a means of exit out of a building;
iii.it accords privacy;
iv.it provides thermal insulation;
v.it provides sound insulation;
vi.it excludes wind and rain as external doors.

(b)(i) It bridges an opening;
(ii) It supports loads above an opening;
(iii) Supports load from the floor slabs;
(iv) Supports its own weight.
