(a) State the difference between a mortise lock and a rim lock,
(b) Sketch each of the following ironmongery:

(i) Butt hinge;
(ii) Mortise lock.

(c) State five factors that influence the choice of a roof type
Many candidates were able to state the factors that influenced the choice of a roof type.
However, many candidates:
- confused hinges with locks;
- were unable to differentiate between a morti.se lock and: a rim lock.

3. (a) (i) Difference between a mortise lock and rim-lock
A mortise lock is set into an opening. formed in the door while a rim-lock is made to be screwed to one face of a door. The former is latched and locked to a striking plate in the frame and the latter locked to staple.
