Candidates' weakness

The following weaknesses were observed among the candidates.

  1. Poor spelling of technical terms and one word answers;
  2. Poor naming of labeled parts;
  3. Drawing of wrong view of specimen;
  4. Inability to describe the produce for testing starch in leaves;
  5. Inability to state similarities between specimens;
  6. Using of plural instead of singular words to indicate parts with a single guide line
  7. Inability to correctly identify the porter;
  8. Poor knowledge of ecology.

The following remedies were proffered to overcome these weaknesses;

  • Teachers and pupils should devote adequate time and effort to prepare for examinations;
  • Teachers should endeavour to complete the syllabus before examinations begin;
  • Biology teachers should conduct spelling drills to help candidates brush up in their spelling of technical terms and one word answers;
  • Teachers should expose candidates to more practical lessons especially in the area of ecology to familiarize them with ecological terms and equipment;
  • Government should ensure that extra schools that cater for external candidates have appropriate science laboratory facilities.
