(ii) State three observable features which adapt specimen to its environment. [6 marks]
(iii) Construct a food chain using at least three of the given specimens.   [2 marks]

(b) (i) Classify specimens B, C, D, E and F into biotic and abiotic factors. [2 marks]
(ii) What it is the significance of specimen E in the ecosystem? [3 marks]

(c) make a drawing 8cm to 10cm long of the lateral view of the specimen C and label fully [9 marks]

OBSERVATION
Candidates did not perform as well in this number as in the previous one. In stating the habits of specimens B, C and F, some candidates simply stated terrestrial instead of B/Lizard-Around homes/buildings/grasslands/forest trees/concrete slabs/rocks.
C/ Grasshopper - open grasslands/gardens/farms/forests. F
/Cactus – Desert/Savannah Arid region/sandy beaches and so lost marks.

A good number of candidates could classify the specimens into biotic and abiotic factors and could state that the soil/specimen E was necessary for providing nutrients and containing water for plant growth. Other significance of E are:

  1. supports/anchors plants/medium for plant growth;
  2. contains mineral salts for plant growth;
  3. natural habitat of some organisms;
  4. contains air for respiration of soil organisms .

In drawing specimen C/grasshopper the candidates performed poorly. The features were not distinct the labels were misspelt, guidelines·were drawn with freehand and in some cases crossing each other.
Some candidates drew dorsal rather than lateral view of the specimens; they did not conform to the specified size of8-10 cm. The expected diagram is given below
