    OBSERVATION

Few candidates attempted this question and their performance was woeful. In question 4(a), most candidates could list the carbohydrate, protein and mineral ingredients in feeds I and II,
In question 4(b), many candidates could not state which of the feeds has a higher energy protein and fibre content.

    The expected answer were:

    Feed with higher
    (i)Energy content – I
    (ii)Protein content-I
    (iii)Fibre content - II

In question 4(c), many candidates were able to recommend one of the feeds £or a laying flock with cogent reason.           '
However, in question 4(d), most candidates could not state the functions of wheat bran and salt in the feeds.
    The expected answers include:

    Function of Wheat bran

  • Acts as filler/bulk
  • Aids bowel movement
  • Reduces cost of feed
  • Provides fibre
  • Reduces energy density
  •         Reduces tendency to deposit fat which hinders laying capacity

    Salt

  • Increases feed palatability
  • Provides mineral to animal
  • Maintenance of acid-base balance
