The weaknesses of the candidates include their inability to:
- state the effects of communal land tenure system on agriculture;
- suggest ways of improving upon communal land. tenure system;
- state the major function of parts of the: tractor;
- discuss the effects of climatic factors on agricultural production;
- discuss, a simple experiment to determine the pH of a soil sample;
- calculate the quantity of compost required to manure a cassava sub-plot
In a 4-course rotation;
- describe the nature and effect of damage caused by insect-pests on crops (bean beetle, grasshopper and yam beetle;
- list characteristics of beef cattle;
- mention features to consider in selecting a rabbit for breeding;
- distinguish between roughages and concentrates; basal feeds and supplement;
- describe the process of egg formation in poultry with the aid of a labelled diagram;
- state the main goals of farmers;
list the production resources at the disposal of farmers; explain the limiting factors farmers experience in fanning
SUGGESTED REMEDY
The Chief Examiners recommended the following to remedy the weaknesses;
- Only qualified Agricultural Science graduate teachers should be engaged in the teaching of agriculture in secondary schools
- Agriculture Science teachers should teach their students how to interpret questions in order to know the requirement of 1the questions
- Students should be exposed to the practical aspects of agriculture through school farms, field trip and excursion
- Agricultural Science teachers should practice topics/requiring calculation with their students
