(b) List eight production resources at the disposal of farmers. [4 marks]
(c) Explain four limiting factors farmers experience in farming. [8marks]

OBSERVATION

Few candidates attempted this question and their performance was poor. In questions 10( a) and (b), majority of the candidates were unable to state the main goals of farmers and 1ist  the production resources at the disposal of farmers. Also, in question 10( c), some candidates could not explain the limiting factors farmers experience in farming.
The expected answers .include:
Main goals of farmers:

  1. Provide employment for himself and others Satisfy his own food needs
  2. Dispose of the excess of his produce as cash income /To make profit
  3. Keep and maintain a secure living on the farm production and ensure good relationship with his family and community
  4. Provide for himself clothing materials
  5. Provide for himself shelter

Production resources at the disposal of farmers:

  1. Soil/land
  2. Water Manure/fertilizer
  3. Livestock
  4. Entrepreneurship
  5. Planting material/seeds/seedlings/crops
  6. Machinery/implements
  7. Labour
  8. Money/capital

Livestock feeds
Drugs and medicants Agro0-chemicals

Limiting factors farmer experience in farming:

  1. Inadequate number of farm  labour
  2. Inadequate quality of farm labour
  3. Inadequate and erratic rainfall
  4. Unfavourable temperature
  5.  Inadequate storage facilities
  6. Poor processing method which  reduces quality of produce
  7. Poor marketing channels
  8. Unfavourable land tenure system Ecological problems e.g. erosion
  9.  Inadequate extension service Prevalence of pests
  10. Prevalence of diseases Inadequate capital
  11. Unfair land tenure system
  12. Use of poor technology
  13. Inadequate inputs
