Candidates' Weakness

Majority of the candidates could not:

  • give the characteristics of agricultural systems in West Africa;
  • explain the ways in which land tenure systems affect agricultural production;
  • explain primary and secondary tillage implements;
  • state the precautions a farmer should take when spraying chemicals;
  • list the ways in which nitrogen is lost from the soil;
  • state the importance of the Nitrogen cycle;
  • explain the processes leading to the formation of nitrate from organic matter in the Nitrogen cycle;
  • describe the mode of formation of sedimentary rocks;
  • list the features of natural pastures;
  • calculate the population of the legume at one seed per stand and the expected plant population;
  • give the ways in which stylosanthes gracilis is important in agricultural production;
  • explain terms such as steaming up, culling; candling, weaning, tattooing and creep feeding;
  • discuss the effects of temperature on brooding of chicks, reproduction in livestock, milk production and egg production;
  • explain the law of diminishing returns;
  • discuss how factors such as price, weather, technology, subsidy and government policy affect the supply of agricultural produce;
  • state how the law of diminishing returns affect agricultural production.
